Similar flags: Australia and New Zealand

A blue field and Union Jack are shared features. Separate similarities from differences before making a guess.

New Zealand: four red stars with white borders

Begin with the shared features

Both have a blue field, Union Jack at upper hoist and Southern Cross toward the fly. Identical answers to blue and stars are not wasted questions: they help narrow the field to a similar pair.

Compare star color, number and position

Australia has six white stars overall, including a large Commonwealth Star at lower hoist and five Southern Cross stars at the fly. New Zealand has four red stars edged in white and no large lower-hoist star. On a small screen, look for the large lower-left star before counting tiny points.

Connect the shape with its meaning

The Commonwealth Star has seven points representing six states and territories. New Zealand’s four stars represent the Southern Cross. Connecting appearance with meaning turns image memorization into geography learning.

What the game can and cannot ask

There is no fixed question about star count or only the stars’ color. Both complete flags contain red, white and blue, so color questions alone cannot distinguish them. Use geography, such as area, then study the details after the reveal. Not every flag is uniquely identifiable through visual questions alone.
