FLAG GUIDE
Flag of Angola
Africa
Flag origins
Red represents blood shed by Angolans under colonial rule, in the national liberation struggle and in defense of their homeland. Black represents Africa and yellow the country’s wealth. The cogwheel stands for workers and industrial production; the machete for peasants, agricultural production and armed struggle; and the five-pointed star for international solidarity and progress.
Flag story
The design resembles the Soviet flag, as though its hammer and sickle had been replaced with a machete and cogwheel.
