FLAG GUIDE
Flag of Palestine
Asia
Flag origins
Palestine's flag has black, white and green horizontal bands with a red hoist triangle. These Pan-Arab colors connect it with early twentieth-century Arab nationalism and the 1916 Arab Revolt. The PLO's founding charter in 1964 provided for a flag, and this design became established as a Palestinian symbol. The 1988 declaration of independence referred to it as an emblem of freedom and dignity.
Flag story
Jordan's flag uses the same basic arrangement but adds a white seven-pointed star in the triangle. A star question therefore separates the pair easily. Recognition, territory and sovereignty remain matters of international dispute; the UN acknowledged the 1988 proclamation and adopted the designation Palestine, which should not be confused with resolving all those issues.
