FLAG GUIDE
Flag of Ivory Coast
Africa
Flag origins
Côte d’Ivoire’s flag has vertical orange, white and green bands from the hoist outward. The government explains orange as the savanna land of the country’s central region, white as unity and hope for peace, and green as southern forests, natural abundance and hope for a better future.
Flag story
Côte d’Ivoire’s flag closely resembles Ireland’s, but the color order is reversed: orange-white-green for Côte d’Ivoire and green-white-orange for Ireland. Their origins and meanings are different despite the mirror-like appearance. Côte d’Ivoire’s colors refer to savanna, peace and unity, and forests and nature; Ireland’s arose from a different historical background.
