Flag origins

Nigeria's flag is a vertical green, white and green tricolor. Government explanations link green with agriculture, nature and natural resources, and white with peace and unity. Michael Taiwo Akinkunmi, then a twenty-three-year-old student in Britain, submitted the winning competition design. It was raised at independence on 1 October 1960.

Flag story

Akinkunmi's original proposal included a red radiating sun in the central white band. The judges removed it, producing today's plain design. In Flag Akinator the correct answer to a sun question is therefore No, even though the designer's first version did contain one.
