FLAG GUIDE
Flag of Eswatini
Africa
Flag origins
Eswatini's flag has blue, yellow, red, yellow and blue bands with a large traditional black-and-white shield, two spears, a staff and feather ornaments. Red represents past battles, blue peace and stability, and yellow natural resources. The shield and spears express defense; black and white also convey peaceful coexistence. The injobo feather ornaments are traditionally associated with royal authority.
Flag story
Its precursor was a flag King Sobhuza II gave the Swazi Pioneer Corps in 1941 during the Second World War. That military design inspired the flag raised in 1967 and retained at independence in 1968. The country changed its name from Swaziland to Eswatini in 2018, but kept the flag's basic design.
